Another lovely weekend

Posted by Webby at January 31, 2010 09:23 PM | Comments (0)

Jilly, Evelyn and I had a lovely time, this weekend, visiting Deb and Kev.

We last saw them just before Christmas when they stayed over at ours on the way to Grimsby. Our return visit was a very relaxed affair which involved, essentially, being driven crazy by Evelyn insisting that Kev and I played on the Wii with her, and her beating us both (quite convincingly) at bowling, before putting Evelyn to bed so that us adults could enjoy one or two relaxing drinks. Fantastic!

Our lovely weekend also involved me helping Kev to move 50+ 20Kg floor boards put on to the first floor of their on-going (and really quite impressive) extension. Quite how I've come to this - I don't know - but helping Kev with this (what was really quite hard work), made the weekend all the more enjoyable. Anyone reading this could be forgiven for thinking I must have experienced some sort of head trauma in the past!

Anyway (and I hope - and am sure - that Deb and Kev won't mind), I wanted to post a couple of photo's of Deb and Kev's impression erection...er...extension, that is! I know, I know, but I couldn't help myself...I'm weak, and it was toooo easy!

Irritatingly enough, I found myself too busy to take any photograph's of the inside of the extension, but I'm sure Deb and Kev will be taking loads as the work proceeds. Fantastic!

I'd like to say another big 'thank you' to Deb and Kev for the lovely weekend. We were all a little sad to come home...especially Evelyn.

Care in the Community?

So, just like every Wednesday, Jilly went supermarket shopping this evening for the weeks groceries.

Ten minutes ago, I received the following text from Jilly.

"I am in the Asda in my slippers! Oh the shame of it!"

Of course, my response was to reply immediately, asking whether or not Helen had been mistaken for her care worker.

Oh, I did laugh!

Posh drink

After sunday dinner this afternoon, Evelyn spent a little while in the kitchen 'doing something'!

Evelyn eventually reappeared in the living room holding a glass with her juice in. She'd made a 'posh drink' by decorating the glass with the sliced lemon from the juice jug. Evelyn was so very proud of her creation that I simply had to post a photo!

Kids today, eh? Who'd 'ave 'em?

Evelyn returned from school today, and seemed really rather quiet, rather subdued. Obviously concerned, Jilly asked Evelyn what was wrong. Evie denied that anything was wrong and got on about her business.

Later, as Jilly and I were getting Evelyn ready for her bath, Evelyn approached Jilly very sheepishly...

"Mummy, I've got some bad news to tell you!"

Jilly could see that Evelyn was obviously becoming very upset, and asked her what was wrong.

Evelyn confessed, "I've been put in the red book at school", and immediately burst into tears. Evie was absolutely distraught and incapable even of telling Jilly what she had done to deserve such punishment (for a child to be put in her form tutor's red book is considered very serious indeed).

After spending some time trying to calm Evelyn down (while sat in the bath), we evenually discovered that Evelyn had been told off THREE times during the day and that, as a result, her teacher told her that he was going to put her name in his red book tomorrow! Other children were involved in at least one of the incidents, but Evelyn was chastised on two further seperate occasions for (what was, essentially) minor misbehaviour.

We told Evelyn that her teacher was right to put her in the naughty book, and that she had to learn to do as she was told at school (and at home). As a punishment we told Evelyn that she couldn't watch one of her favourite DVDs before bed, that neither of us would read to her tonight, and that nor would we listen to her ryhmes with her as she fell to sleep (as we do every night). Evelyn seemed to think that this was fair punishment and has gone to bed without a word of complaint.

Of course, before she went to sleep, we were sure to tell her how pleased we were with her for confessing what she had done, and that we always wanted her to be sure to tell us about any trouble she got into.

I'm only hoping that, as she grows up, the trouble is never any more serious than being told off for playing with 'supercat' toys while she should be concentrating on her school work.

I'm living in cloud cuckoo land, aren't I?

New spectacles

Evelyn took receipt of her new spectacles this morning and she looks absolutely beautiful in them. Evelyn doesn't realise how especially flattering Jilly was being when she compared her to Nicky Hambleton-Jones (I say especially flattering because Jilly is usually less than complimentary about beautiful (blonde?) women...er...though it's always tongue-in-cheek, of course!

I plan to take a photograph of Evie in her spectacles - to compare with that of Ms Hambleton-Jones - as soon as Evelyn sits still long enough!

Goodbye Mr. Snow

Worried that we are about to see the last of the snow, Jilly and Evelyn decided to make a snowman in the back garden today.

And, as I think you'll agree; they made a good of it, too!

Personally, I'll be glad to see the back of the bloody stuff!

Cinderella at WYP

Jilly, Evelyn and I enjoyed a lovely Christmas present from the Wassocks this afternoon. Jim and Helen organised for us to see 'Cinderella' at the West Yorkshire Playhouse (they also invited the OsBradFam to join the party) and we all enjoyed it immensely; it was BRILLIANT!

As we left the auditorium, Jilly and I agreed that we never fail to be impressed by the productions at WYP (we've seen the same production company perform 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Flat Stanley' and 'The Snow Queen', and they have all been excellent).

While this 'Cinderella' wasn't a pantomime, there was a great deal of audience participation (two members of the cast invited half a dozen children onto the stage for a dance at one point), and our children loved it. Evelyn, Dom, Tilly and Eloise were perfectly well behaved throughout the whole show, clapping enthusiastically (though not always in time) with the audience.

Thanks, again, Jim and Helen, for a lovely afternoon and a very thoughtful Christmas present. It was lovely sharing it with you.

What a day!

So...Evelyn came into our bedroom at 05:30 this morning complaining that her neck was hurting. At first, she seemed quite relaxed about the pain but, as we invited her into our bed, she became more and more upset until she was crying inconsolably, and even began screaming.

Obviously anxious (one of us more than the other; I'm a soft puddin' I am!), Jilly and I were quite confident that Evelyn had simply caught a draft on her neck during the night (we all know how painful a 'crick in the neck' can be?) and was suffering a stiff neck as a result.

Unfortunately, Evelyn's pain seemed a little disproportionate for a 'crick in the neck' and, after Evelyn described how the pain had moved around her neck and into her head (and now, "...felt like a little mouse running around inside!") we felt it was safer to take Evelyn to A&E for a more thorough check-up.

Fortunately, A&E was very quiet, and the attending doctor was soon able to reassure Jilly and I that Evelyn had probably strained her neck (asking if Evelyn had been sledging recently!), and that we weren't to worry. The doctor recommended that Evelyn rested for a couple of days, and that we continued giving her the pain killers.

Looks like Jilly and I will have to organise time off to look after the liddle beaudee!

An unexpected day off school

Due to the sudden (and unexpectedly heavy) snowfall which began last night, Evelyn's school was closed this afternoon. Jilly collected Evelyn from school, and they spent the afternoon sledging!

What else would they do, eh?

Ski Sunday

Posted by Webby at January 3, 2010 09:07 PM | Comments (0)

Jilly invited the Wassocks to ours for Sunday lunch today and, as there is still plenty of snow around to be enjoyed, we arranged to meet for a play in the snow before eating.

We all met in the playing fields at New College and it was obvious that Dom, Tilly and Evelyn were pleased to see each other. While preparing to share a sledge ride, Evelyn and Dominic passed some time discussing their future together...

"When we are married, Dominic, can we have some dogs?"

Rather than confirm or deny that he and Evelyn would, inevitably, marry, Dominic simply replied, "I don't really like dogs!"

Not deterred, Evelyn followed up, "Oh! We'll have cats, then, instead!", and climbed aboard the sledge.

We had an excellent time and no-one ate any yellow snow! Result!
