Terrible Two's
Posted by Webby at February 18, 2007 09:23 PM | Comments (0)There can be absolutely no doubt that Evelyn has finally begun the 'terrible two's' phase. Always contradicting Jilly and I [and herself], Evelyn has begun pleading, shouting, screaming and then stamping her little feet when she doesn't get her own way. More usually, of course, when she wants something from me, she doesn't have to stamp her feet; she just gives me a big kiss, and then hugs me.
I'm a big lad to be wrapped around such liddle fingers, but she manages it effortlessly.
Also, Jilly showed me a piece of paper, today, with Evelyn's writing on it. Evelyn has begun trying to write, and here is the proof.
Obviously, the date isn't today's date, it just happened to be on the paper that Evelyn was writing on. The other 'e's are Jillian's and are there for Evelyn to copy. I think you'll agree how brilliantly consistent Evelyn was in her ability to write each of her 'letters' in the very center of the squares, and many of them do resemble the letter 'e'.
Evelyn is two years, nine and a half months old...BRILLIANT!
RED RED RED
Posted by Webby at February 12, 2007 09:09 PM | Comments (0)As Jilly and Evelyn got on the bus into town this morning, Evelyn's attention was drawn by another woman already on the bus.
"I don't like that lady", she exclaimed, "She looks like a man!"
A little surprised, Jilly told Evelyn that it wasn't polite to talk about the way people look [particularly if, even on a busy bus, the person you are talking about can hear you!], and asked Evelyn to think about how she'd feel if someone was horrible about the way she looked. Evelyn seemed to regret what she had said.
Then, a teenage girl got on the bus.
"I like you", Evie told the girl. "You've got red hair like my daddy, and a red toat [coat], and a red head-band. I like red!", she said loudly enough for the whole bus to hear. And, apparently, the whole bus found this highly amusing.
"Red is my best colour". And mummy's face was very red too!
I'm reminded of one of Evelyn's current favourite reads, WOBBLE BEAR SAYS YELLOW, very entertaining indeed.

It snowed today, and Evelyn made her first snowman.
Evie and her New Nurs'ry
Posted by Webby at February 9, 2007 09:16 PM | Comments (0)For the first time, this week, Evelyn has gone to her new nurs'ry without screaming the place down before we leave home, and without bawling her eyes out when we've left her. Evie now seems resigned to going to the nursery, and has even begun choosing the clothes that she will wear the following day.
Bizarrely, Evelyn has told Jilly and I, repeatedly, that Leanne [Evie's Key-Worker at the nursery] is coming to our house, over the weekend, for tea. Leanne's obviously a big hit with Evelyn, and this attachment seems to have smoothed Evie's settling in period.
