...a many splendid thing

As Jilly was reading to Evelyn in bed this evening, I was going downstairs to make some tea. Evelyn, seeing me go downstairs, called me back into her bedroom and, as I leaned over to kiss her goodnight, she said,

"Night night, sleep tight. Love you".

As Jilly's always reminding me, I'm a big soft sh*te; but that's enough to make anyone blub! Isn't it?

Evelyn's new bed - on FlickrAnother giant leap [for Jilly and I certainly] in Evelyn's development, is the departure of Evie's cot and the arrival of her big girl bed!

After an initial, "I want my tot [cot] back, this bed is rubbish!" [Mummy pointed out to Evelyn that the bed wasn't quite so rubbish when Evelyn was bouncing up and down on it immediately after we'd assembled it], Evelyn seems to have come to like her new bed.

That'll Teach 'Im [Me!]

As Evelyn and I left Nanny and Poppie's this evening, I was forced to put Evelyn in her child seat as [as she is inclined to do, of late] Evelyn was determined to mess around and, generally, not get in her seat.

Evelyn screamed until the car vibrated [almost], demanding to go back to Nanny's house. I explained that I had to put her in her chair, that Mummy and Tee-tee were looking forward to seeing her, that I was sorry for upsetting her, and that we all love her very much.

Evelyn's reply? That I didn't like her and that I was a, "horrid man", and that I was, "'tinky [stinky] and Pooey!".

On the positive side, after her bath this evening, as I dressed her for bed, Evelyn asked that she be allowed to put her own 'jama bottoms on. The liddle beaudee put her left leg in her pyjamas and then, balancing on her left leg, sucessfully put her right leg in the right leg of her pyjamas. It would be ungentlemanly of me to suggest that she had difficulty pulling her 'jamas over her bottom, but...er...she had difficulty pulling her 'jamas over her bottom and I had to help her negotiate her nappy...FANTASTIC!

Two Peas in a Pod...again

Monday 18th September 2006

As Jim and Henney have planned a weekend away, Dominic came to stay in Gingatopia overnight yesterday. Jo had the pleasure of Dominic's company over the weekend, and then brought Dom to Gingatopia on Monday morning.

Two peas in a podAccording to Jilly, Dom and Evelyn played beautifully all day. Together they helped Jilly make dinner of fish fingers [made, from scratch, using fish fillets, milk [I'd used all the eggs the day before...D'Oh!] and breadcrumbs. Dom told Jilly, on at least one occasion, "I don't like this Jollay (Jilly)", when coating the fish.

During the day, Jilly took Dom and Evelyn to the park in Dom's new double buggy as she had organised to meet Kieran at the orthodontists near the park. Evidentially, Dominic 'drove' the buggy all the way into town, while Evelyn stroked Dominic's hair sat, as she was, behind him in the buggy. During their play in the park, Dominic was heard to tell Evelyn to,

"Get down from that big slide. It's very dangerous!"

Evelyn turned her back to Dominic, shook her bottom at him, and duly slid down the slide with her legs in the air! That's our girl!

Only after the mile and a half walk to the park did Jilly realise how great the combined weight of both the toddlers was going to be [it is apparent, when they stand together, that Evelyn and Dominic are now about the same height, and Jilly reports that they weigh almost exactly the same too].

Dominic and Evelyn had a lovely splashy bath together before Jilly and I put them to bed. Near exhaustion, Dominic and Evelyn were straight to sleep and our night was only interrupted once [at 05:05 hurrrrummppphhhh!] when Dominic awoke and, in unfamiliar surroundings, was a little upset.

Tuesday 19th September 2006

Sadly, today was a very different story. Apparently, Dominic and Evelyn have done nothing but fight all day. They've fought over toys, they've fought over mummy's/Jilly's knee. At one point, Evelyn was forced to hit Dominic in the face, but she soon got her comeuppance when, reaching across Dominic's face, 'scragger' Harris bit her [he left quite a mark actually, that was still visible when I returned home!].

In the morning, Steph and Alex [Evelyn's other man] came to visit in the hope that the odds of two adults to three children would improve the day. The five four of them enjoyed strawberries [Dominic played with his fruit, rolling it around in his hands claiming that the strawberry was, "just like a ball"].

When Steph asked Dominic, "Have you got a ball Dominic?", Dominic looked at Steph and replied, with great determination,

"No, Steph, it's a strawberry!".

According to Alex, Jilly was, "Cheeky, all day!". This is, apparently, significant, as, according to Alex, only people who are naughty ever do anything, "all day"!

After Alex and Steph had gone, Evelyn, feeling a little weary, decided that it was time for her afternoon nap.

"I'm tired." she said. "Take me to bed now, please...without Dom...on my own!

Oh dear!
