"YES!"

Posted by Webby at January 31, 2006 07:39 PM | Comments (2)

Today...for the very first time...Evelyn said "YES". I can only hope that Evelyn doesn't grow up to become the girl who always says "yes"! In fact, the more I think about it, I more I think I preferred her saying "NO"!

Scammonden Sunset Stroll

Scammonden sunsetAfter a little convincing [I must admit] Jilly talked me into going for a walk around Scammonden Damn this evening. Obviously, it wasn't the walk I was afraid of, so much as the fact that at, nearly 16:00, it was going to get dark! Er, yeh! That's right!

Anyway, I got some excellent shots of Evelyn, and the photo that Jilly took of Evie and I was a beauty, but I was especially pleased with the two photo's I took as the sun began to disappear behind the dam. Of course, with conditions as beautiful as this, the photographs essentially took themselves, all I had to do was 'point and shoot'. I'm especially pleased with the contrast of the dark against the evening sky...

Photoshop...who needs it?

"I Want My Potty"

I Want My Potteeee! The title of a book [and short animated story on DVD] that we've recently introduced Evelyn to, "I Want My Potty" is especially relevant today as Evelyn has, for the very first time, used her potty!

Apparently, Jilly had already removed Evie's nappy and replaced her trousers [a girl has to have some dignity, you know!]. Evelyn got her potty, placed it directly in front of the television [she was enjoying the "Simsims" (the Simpsons)], and she used the potty for what she very proudly referred to as "Poo, Poo, Poo"!

And, Mummy saved the little deposit for me to look at [arrggh...bless her little cotton socks!] on my return home from work. When I got in, Evelyn was very excited to tell me about her toilet triumph, and only slightly more excited than Jilly.

In further news, Evie's ever expanding vocabulary now includes...

  • "Sawsaw" - "Sorry", which usually follows one of Evelyn's 'playful' smacks...er...usually aimed at an unsuspecting mummy's head or face.

  • "Fixit" - "Fix it", usually in reference to her farmhouse which must be assembled by mummy or daddy before she can play with it!

  • "Nap" - "Nappy". Something I think we will be seeing less of over the next few months.

  • "Done" - "Done". Usually exclaimed after dinner, or when she has finished reading a book.

  • "Doze" - "[Baby] Rose". Evelyn has named her dolly, Baby Rose. In an attempt to make brushing her teeth more bearable, Jilly and I are now encouraging Evelyn to show Baby Rose how to brush her teeth.

  • "Opie" - "Open it". Usually referring to food, but sometimes Evelyn's...

  • "Sham" - "Shampoo", when in the bath and desperate to wash her own hair, Evelyn will demand that mummy or daddy "opie" her shampoo.

Liddle Mrs. Mopp

Going into the living room today, Evelyn noticed a discarded Twix wrapper that had been thrown behind the dresser in the kitchen [I'll be speaking to Kieran about that at a later date!], and she was desperate to reach behind the dresser to retrieve it. I told her that she couldn't reach it, and that I would get it. As I was making dinner at the time, I forgot about the wrapper and got back to preparing the veggies.

I looked up, a minute or so later, to see Evelyn with her toy floor brush, sweep the offending article from behind the dresser, pick it up, and show it to me before attempting to throw it in the bin.

Clearly, MY DAUGHTER'S A GENIUS!

Visiting 'The Beiths'

The Family BeithThe population of Gingatopia finally got around to visiting the beautiful expanding Beith family today. Jilly has been a little ill recently [nothing remotely serios, thankfully!] so we thought it sensible to wait until Jilly had fully recovered before descending upon the Beiths, and their beautiful new arrival, Rose Emily.

Rose is an absolute beauty and the spit of her dad! Evelyn was beautifully behaved around Rose, desperate to kiss her and obviously very keen to spend time with her; so much so that, when we arrived home, Evelyn's [only] doll had suddenly become known, by Evie, as 'baby Dose'.
