Anger Management Counselling Required?

Posted by Webby at March 28, 2005 10:10 PM | Comments (0)

Or, perhaps, she was just plain hungry?

DK - Touch & Feel - Baby AnimalsJilly had to wrestle Evie's 'Touch and Feel' book away from her this evening, as Evelyn tried to make a meal of the poor little baby gorilla inside. Unfortunately, Jilly was unable to get a camera to provide a photographic record of the resultant beatnik goatee Evelyn was wearing after ripping 40% of the belly fur from the baby gorilla.

Whoosat/Whassat?

It's clear, now, that Evelyn is definitely asking the question.

Jilly rang me while I was at work this afternoon, and passed the phone to Evelyn for me to say hello to her. Evelyn immediately asked "Whoosat?" down the phone [twice!]. Like the big soft puddin' I am, I started filling up!

It's just dawned on me...she'll be wanting a bloody telephone extension in her room next!

Catching up...

As Jilly and I bathed Evelyn tonight, we found ourselves listing all the fantastic new things that Evelyn has started doing...and that I have been unable to record, so far, on these, our Gingatopian Chronicles.

  • "Whoosat?" and "Whassat?".
  • Very often, when a bell or buzzer sounds, or someone opens a door, Evelyn will appear to ask "Whoosat"? or "Whassat"? Obviously, at 10 months and three weeks old, it's unlikely that Evelyn is actually asking the question and is - Jilly and I think - just repeating what she's heard us, or the staff at the nursery, saying when someone comes to the door. Regardless, hearing her 'speak' is absolutely marvellous.

  • Dancing Queen...er...Princess.
  • Evelyn has obviously inherited Jilly's love of the performing arts - 'O' Level in Modern Educational Dance, don't you know! - as she has begun dancing, on request! She is so VERY cute as she wiggles her liddle bottom, and shakes her hips and shoulders in different directions at the same time! Of course, when she sees how it amuses Jilly and I, Evie then gives us one of her biggest, most beautiful, smiles.

So, Evie appears to have inherited her mum's love of dancing, combined with her dad's inability to do it...d'Oh!

  • Evelyn 'Nitrous Oxide' Webster.
  • When Jilly collected Evelyn from the nursery today, she [Evie that is...ahem!] farted as Jilly picked her up. Jilly remarked that Evie was a little trumpet trousers as she began laughing at her own fart. Until today, Evelyn had been confused, or at very best, interested, in the sound of her own farts, but hasn't actually found it funny until today. As I fed Evie her dinner of Beany Chee [Baked Beans with cheese, as per Annabel Karmel's Superfood book] Evie let go another salvo of guffs and laughed out loud as she did. Fantastic!

There was more other fascinating news but, left to my own devices, I can't remember what it was...d'Oh!

Upper Right Lateral Incisor - Tooth #6

Posted by Webby at March 23, 2005 09:09 PM | Comments (1)

Baby TeethEvelyn's upper right lateral incisor has definitely broken through the skin.

For long enough, it was teasing Jilly and I by only appearing to have broken through but now, it's official! Tooth #6 has arrived!

Sleeping Beaudee

For the last week or so, Jilly and I have been going into Evie's room in the morning to find her fast asleep on her tummy. It was quite a surprise for me, the first time I found her in that position, but Evie is obviously now in the habit of turning over in her sleep. I think it may actually be helping her to sleep through the night, as she still has her little tickly cough...the liddle angel.

More Harris Family Birthday Celebrations

Happy Birthday HelenBlimey, it's all go on the birthday front in the Harris household! It doesn't seems two minutes since Dominic's birthday, and it isn't two minutes since Jim's [slight exaggeration, admittedly] and, now...it's Helen's birthday!

Happy Birthday Helen!

Rumour has it that Jilly will be abandoning Evie and I to join you in your celebrations tonight. Evie, Kieran and I hope you all have an excellent time.

Dominic - One Giant Leap etc., etc., etc.

So, Jim reportedly received the following text message whilst at work today...

At 387 days and 12(+/-)hours old, that liddle beaudee, Dom, has finally cast off the oppressive chains of self-doubt and, dare I suggest, indolence, and has taken his first steps while out with his mum...HURRAH! Well done, Dominic!

Now...I accept that I'm the only person that hears the other voices...but I'm sure that I can't be the only person to have heard the metallic clunk of the gauntlet being thrown to the ground here? As I've already told Jim [on WASSOCKS], I have begun plans to further concentrate Evelyn's strict training regimen in order to SMASH Dom's new record [previously held by the other beautiful ginger princess, Ellie Bradbury]. By my calculations, then, Evelyn has 71 days(+/-) before she MUST be walking...no pressure there then!

While I'm on the subject of Dom, and going WASSOCKS link crazy, I'd like to take the time to suggest that the reader takes a look at the following image of Dom, taken by his dad, and stored on Jim's Flickr site. Of course, it's only my opinion, but I think this is a quite beautiful picture!

Rock Steady...er...almost!

At 316-days-old [or ten months and twelve days] Evelyn is reported to have stood, independently, on at least TWO occasions today.

Jilly collected Evelyn from the nursery this evening, to discover Evie stood next to one of the tables, but not supporting herself in any way. Of course, she then slumped to the ground, exhausted by the tremendous physical effort. And then, later, Evie treated Kieran to an exhibition of her new found standing skills.

Clearly, I'm just going to have to be patient, aren't I? Though, it's going to be difficult!

Happy Birthday...er...ya WASSOCK!

Birthday Pie...and link to interesting pie story! As I haven't had a lot of time to prepare a suitably amusing message for Jim [unter-Wassock...er...if previous generations are uber-Wassocks] from the population of Gingatopia, I thought it best just to send out a big...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM, in celebration of your birthday today.

Evie's First Mothering Sunday

Posted by Webby at March 6, 2005 10:20 PM | Comments (0)

I sent Evelyn into town with her spending money at the end of last week, suggesting that she didn't come back until she'd bought her mum a load of smashin' Mother's Day pressies...she didn't let me down!
Breakfast for TwoNot a mention of tough US detective, Shaft, though! Not the monster that everyone believes I am, I allowed Evie to lounge around on our bed with her mum, as I prepared Jilly's breakfast-in-bed, comprising of a fruit salad, followed by croissants and jam, all washed down with bucks fizz, and a cup of tea! Typically, Evie dived straight into Jilly's fruity breakfast! As you can see from these beautiful images, the occasion of Mother's Day didn't stop Jilly from waking with outrageous bed-head!

Amongst other pressies, Evie bought mummy a new address book [as her old one was in tatters], a box of Thornton's Continentals [er...no dark chocolate, though, thank you very much!], and a very amusing novel by Kate Long, entitled, A Bad Mother's Handbook.

As Kieran was at his dad's this morning [so no photo's of Keeks], his pressie-tation [did you see what I did there...eh...pressie and presentation...eh, eh?] had to wait until he came home!

We finished celebrating Mother's Day by joining more of the Annis clan for a chinese meal in Halifax, before returning to Bradford for a refreshing cup of celebratory tea!

Upper Left Lateral Incisor - Tooth #5

Posted by Webby at March 4, 2005 05:05 PM | Comments (0)

Baby TeethAnother of Evelyn's teeth has made an appearance. Her upper left lateral incisor has broken through the skin and it appears - very much - as though her upper right lateral incisor is about to break through too. That's tooth #5, then!

It's very strange - and I hope that all parents think like this, and that it's not just me being a little 'freaky' - but seeing Evelyn's teeth appear is filling me with a sort of sadness. I think that I am, simply, afraid that she's not going to be my liddle baby girl much longer.

I'm sure I'll snap out of it!
