Seven Month Health Visit
Posted by Webby at November 30, 2004 08:31 PM | Comments (0)Jilly took Evelyn for her seven-month visit with the health visitor today. Amongst other comments, Jilly quoted the health visitor as saying that Evelyn was, "wonderfully inquisitive", had a "lovely expressive face", and a "beautifully shaped little head".
Evelyn was weighed at 7.88kg or 17lb 5oz.

She doesn't appear to be very bothered by the coughing, or in any pain, but is coughing loudly and often enough to wake Jilly and I two or three times every night. We have bought Evelyn some baby cough medicine [which Evie seems to really like!] and are keeping our fingers crossed that it will clear up before long. Obviously, we've locked the medicine up, in the drugs cabinet, away from Evie...
Another [distressing] first, and some pleasant ones
Posted by Webby at November 22, 2004 08:42 PM | Comments (0)The Distressing First - This morning, Jilly took Evelyn to the nursery that she will start attending in the New Year. Jilly found it really difficult leaving Evie with strangers for a whole hour, but went up to her work for a cup of tea and a chat. When she returned to the nursery to collect Evelyn she was, apparently, surrounded by adoring staff commenting on how beautiful she was [naturally!], and seemed perfectly happy...the liddle beaudee! Jilly admitted to having a bit of a 'blub', over her cup of tea...and then, again, at lunch-time...the big softy!
The Pleasant Firsts - It's official, Evelyn is definitely trying to speak! For some time now [a fortnight, or so!] she has been associating her word 'bib-bib' with Kieran [though we don't know why!], and consistantly says 'da-da' when I'm around...er...although she also adds a 'bib-bib' for good measure...er...and the occasional gurgle!
[Nearly] On Ilkley Moor Baht 'At
Posted by Webby at November 21, 2004 09:20 PM | Comments (1)So that we could see Ruth, John, Laurie and Annabel before Christmas, Jilly, Evie and I went for a drive to Ilkley this morning for a look round the town [it's a lovely place, a little like Harrogate...er...but with big hills!] and to see John compete in a 10km cross-country run [madness, that is!].
An excellent day was had by all. John performed brilliantly [I thought], but it didn't dawn on me at the time to ask him what position he finished in...D'Oh! I believe he finished in the first 30 [and there must have been 300 in the field], so in the top 10% of the runners.
*27 Nov 2004 - John actually finished 29th
...from little acorns grow
Posted by Webby at November 18, 2004 09:40 PM | Comments (2)Jilly took Evelyn to the GPs' baby clinic again today...and the news, predictably [and quite encouragingly], is that Evelyn is continuing to grow at a very satisfactory rate...er...thank you very much!
Evie now weighs 7.72kg or 17lb - which is just under 1¼ stone - which puts in the 51st percentile of baby girls her age; she is 68.5 cm tall [in the 83rd percentile], and her head has a circumference of 43cm [putting her in the 25th percentile]. She has got a beautiful, perfectly shaped, little head. Obviously, Jilly is more than a little relieved that Evelyn appears not to be taking after her dad by having a massive ginger heeeed!
Scammonden or bust II
Posted by Webby at November 14, 2004 07:04 PM | Comments (0)In an attempt to clear away a few cob-webs, Jilly demanded that I took her and Evie for a spin up to Scammonden Dam for a walk today.
Having wrapped her up lovely and warm [in her marshmallow suit, very generously given to us by Ashley and Sarah Judge!], Evelyn seemed to really enjoy the walk...especially since she spent the whole walk sat in her carrier strapped to me...perhaps the only way to travel?
As Jilly claims that she gets me out walking only very infrequently, we took the digital camera along to provide evidence that she'd got me out of the house. Unfortunately, there are very few photos of Jilly enjoying the scenery as she was responsible for carrying the camera. I had already been trusted with one [very] precious item, so Jilly thought it best not to burden me with any more responsibility...probably a very wise decision! But that explains why there are so few piccies of Jilly!

To complete Kieran's 13th birthday celebrations in style, Jackie Swire [Jilly's manager and wife of Man U's Chief Physio, Rob Swire] very generously gave us three tickets to see Kieran's [other] team play in the 4th round of the Carling Cup. Unfortunately, I was far too interested in the game to take any pictures of the action...d'Oh!
Many thanks, once again, to Jackie and Rob [who did acknowledge Kieran as he waved furiously from his seat...er...even though neither Keeks nor I have ever met him. Cheers Rob!]
13th Birthday Celebrations
Posted by Webby at November 7, 2004 09:34 PM | Comments (4)Family and friends gathered together, today, to celebrate Kevin Kieran becoming a teenager.
Kieran's special day began with his team - West End Juniors - emphatically beating Battyeford, 13-4, at home. Kieran, in his 'centre-mid' position, even managed to bag a couple of goals himself.
Kieran, Andrew and I joined Druz and Roger at the Galpharm Stadium this afternoon to watch Huddersfield Town vs Brentford. Town just about managed to rescue a point from a game in which they seemed to be pitted against twelve men throughout...Brentford, and the referee [who was diabolically poor!]. I say, "...just about managed to rescue a point...", but they were, in fact, the stronger team for most of the game and had three other good attempts at goal, one of which hit the cross-bar...OOOOHHHHHHHH!
Jilly had organised a bit of a do for our special liddle guy's birthday, so Grandma and Grandad (and Greggoire), Helen and Dominic, and Justine and Ellie were all in attendance when we got home from the game. A great deal of food was consumed (prepared, lovingly, by Jilly), several fireworks set-off (ignited, wrecklessly, by myself) and a good time was had by all.
Cause(s) For Celebration and More 'Firsts'

Today is the SIX MONTH anniversary of Evelyn's birth...HUZZAH!
Of course, Jilly spent most of the afternoon blubbing as she remembered the events of the day, six months ago. As we discussed it tonight, I began to fill up a little myself. It's amazing how the liddle beaudee has changed and grown over the last half-year.
New first #1
This week has seen Evelyn take her first steps on the path to becoming omnivorous. Her ever increasing diet now includes beef casserole, chicken casserole, fish casserole and [perhaps a little disturbingly], chicken liver casserole [which actually smells very nice, but which neither Jilly, nor I, have yet tasted...we should be so ashamed!]. Evie also enjoys her usual vegetables, mixed with a mild cheddar cheese...yummy!
New first #2
As Jilly was out tonight - saying goodbye to Norma who is leaving work - Kieran and I gave Evelyn her bedtime bath. For the first time, Evelyn looked as though she was about to crawl in the bath. Being especially careful that she didn't start drinking the bathwater, I put Evie on her stomach and, almost immediately, she 'shuffled' backwards to the head of the bath. Then, kicking forwards, she ended up on her knees but didn't manage to get up off her liddle fat belly. Obviously, her higher than average bouyancy helped her to get to her kness, but she couldn't be bothered straightening her arms!
New first #3
After her bath, I fed Evie her supper [consisting of 1½ Rusks...yummy!] followed by a bottle of milk. The second 'first' is that, during a break from drinking her milk, I 'rested' the bottle on Evie's belly as she lay in my arms. It became clear that Evelyn was hungry again when she reached forward, took the bottle in both hands, and put it straight in her mouth! FANTASTIC...she's only six months old and already helping herself to food!
Cause for Celebration #2
Jilly, Evie and I seem to have recovered from a very mysterious 'bug' which affected us all in very different ways, but which was quite unpleasant for all of us. There were other - more messy - symptoms, but the one common symptom was a profound fatigue, which meant all three of us spent loads of time asleep. Fortunately, we all seem to have recovered fully now; and - more fortunately - Kieran appears to have escaped the 'bug' entirely!
